Dakar is situated on a peninsula and is the farthest Western point on the main continent of Africa. It use to be a French colony and has a very strong French influence except out in the smaller villages. There are two seasons, one dry and one rainy, and the temperatures can range from the high 90s to low 60s depending on the season.

All of the power outlets in the city are 220v so all American 110v electronics need a power transformer or they will blow out. All the houses are made of cement and brick so fires are not a big concern.

Senegal is primary an Islamic country but the capital Dakar has a very strong Catholic and Christian influence.
