Dakar Academy in West Africa offers an esl program to its students.

ELL Program

The English Language Learners (ELL) program at Dakar Academy Schools is designed to assist non-native English speakers to function in the general education classroom. The ELL program is available for students in 1st to 12th grades, offering both social and academic language skills.

Any non-native English-speaking student applying to DA must be tested in the following areas of English proficiency:

  • Oral language- listening and speaking

  • Literacy- reading and writing

If a student scores as non fluent in any of those areas, he/she is eligible to receive ELL services. After reviewing the test scores, the ELL teachers and administrators will discuss grade and class placement of the student and ELL teachers create an Individual Learning Plan for each student based on his/her unique needs. At the end of each academic year, each student receiving ELL services is formally assessed to determine the need for continued support.

DA Schools are member of WIDA International School Consortium, a leading global network of schools focused on educating multilingual learners. We adhere to WIDA standards and use the WIDA Model for our formalized assessments
