2019 Fine Arts Festival
The DA community gathered to celebrate student creativity at the 2019 Fine Arts Festival, held May 25. In addition to musical performances at the event, a total of 155 art pieces across nine categories were submitted by high school students, grades 9 through 12. Of the categories represented, three were 3D categories.
Best of Show was awarded to Rachel E., senior, who sketched a piece titled “Beauty Through the Stages.” The piece was comprised of two separate sketches she drew, in ballpoint pen. Rachel also won Best of Show in the 2018 Fine Arts Festival.
Se-Ya K., senior, received People’s Choice Award and First Place for her painting, “Pulchritudo Externi.” It was her first attempt using oil paints on canvas. The piece featured various trees, plants and flowers that were rooted in the soil of a heart. A waterfall flowed out of an artery of the heart.
“When I was painting this piece, I was thinking of a way to express beauty inside ourselves rather than outside,” said Se-Ya. “What I came up with were heart and nature. Our heart is one of the most significant organs in our bodies. Nature is God’s creation and is beauty itself,” said Se-Ya. “He designed nature so intricately and carefully that whenever I look at my surroundings, I am impressed by the beauty and His incredible pieces of art.”
