The English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Dakar Academy is designed to assist non-native English speakers to function in the general education classroom. The ESL program is available for students in 1st to 12th grades.
Any non-native English-speaking student applying to DA must be tested in the three areas of English proficiency:
- Reading comprehension
If a student scores as non fluent in any of those areas, he/she is eligible to receive ESL services. After reviewing the test scores, the ESL teachers and administrators will discuss grade and class placement of the student. Testing may also be performed at the end of the school year to determine the necessity for continued ESL support.
